Marketing’s Volunteer Day

On 3rd March Arriba Group’s Marketing team took advantage of their volunteer day to support a local cause or charity. The team took part in a corporate clean-up paddle in the iconic Sydney Harbour with Sydney by Kayak to help remove some of the 1.5 tonnes of plastic waste finding its way into the harbour each hour. Kayaking is one of the most eco-friendly ways to travel the harbour and Sydney by Kayak are committed to being sustainable and eco-friendly in everything they do, with Kayak seats and uniforms made from recycled plastic bottles they are able to ensure Sydney by Kayak is a carbon positive business producing 8 only tonnes of carbon per year as a business. (An ordinary Sydney-sider produces about 15 tonnes per year).

Sydney by Kayak partners with Ecobel Sydney and The Sydney Institute of Marine Science to help support some amazing sustainability initiatives (Living Seawalls, Ocean Gardens and Seabins to name a few).

A wet start to the day did not deter the team and sheltered under a tree they received a safety briefing from Dan at Sydney by Kayak. The weather began to clear up just as they set off into the harbour from Lavender Bay, buckets in hand ready to help clean up Sydney Harbour. Led by Dan, who provided information on local conservation initiatives and stories, the team paddled through Lavender Bay collecting the rubbish that accumulates along the shoreline and taking in the stunning views of the Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House as they went.

The Marketing team had a great morning on the water with Dan and the Sydney by Kayak team and found the experience to be very rewarding both professionally and personally.

‘It was a great team-building experience to be able to get out of the office and contribute to the environment’.

As a member of the Climate and Health Alliance (CAHA) the Arriba Group is passionate about collaborating with others to positively impact the environment and committed to adopting the necessary measures in our day-today work practices which aim to minimise our impact on the environment and reduce risk to the health, safety and welfare of employees, clients, suppliers, the wider public and anyone else who may be affected by our business operations.
