Preventing deconditioning during lockdown

Following the Federal Government’s move to a national lockdown in late March, we’re now facing pandemic-related isolation, physical distancing and workplace closures in some form for the foreseeable future. In the fight to protect ourselves against the risks of COVID-19, we’re all experiencing deconditioning on some level, whether that’s from more time spent sitting and less incidental movement, or because we’ve become accustomed to a much slower daily pace.

A digital strength and conditioning program

For clients going through a physical rehab program, the risk of deconditioning is even higher, which is why we’ve developed our Virtual Exercise Conditioning Program. Rehab Management’s State Manager in Victoria, Daniel Zeina, said the company had to pivot quickly to deliver a digital strength and conditioning program to maintain support for clients.

“We already had the smarts and technology,” said Daniel.

“Our consultants were comfortable with the RM Telehealth platform, so we just needed to sharpen our virtual demonstration skills, which didn’t take long.“

Continuing the rehab journey

The program includes physical assessments, virtual exercise conditioning and interventions delivered through video consultations conducted by Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists. Tailored exercise programs and virtual management are enabling clients to continue their rehab journey – and maintain their focus on independence and self management, and a life free from pain and injury.

Flexibility for clients

For clients, it offers a lot of flexibility – including access to the exercise program via any digital device at any time of the day, as well as the ability to easily record physical exertion and pain scale ratings. Clients are continuing to participate in physical activity and remaining connected to their rehab provider, which offers the added benefit of supporting their mental health.
