A Day in the Life of Mel

Mel is a Rehabilitation Consultant based in Hobart, supporting people through recovery, wellbeing and their return‑to‑work journey. With a passion for variety and helping others, her role is as dynamic as it is rewarding.

What does an average day look like for Mel?

Mel’s days are a mix of connection, coordination and problem‑solving. A typical day might include a few meetings, one or two EAP sessions, phone calls with treatment providers, employers and workers, GP appointments, troubleshooting complex issues and writing reports. It’s a role that requires adaptability and empathy – and no two days are ever the same.

Why did Mel choose to work in this role?

For Mel, variety was a key driver. With a background in small business, the idea of doing the same thing every day didn’t appeal.

“I didn’t like the idea of doing just one thing. I love that every day is different and puts different demands on me,” Mel says. “I think it helps me stay fresh too.”

What does she love most about her role?

Helping people get better and return to work is what motivates Mel most. Working extensively in the EAP space, she’s had the opportunity to meet and support many inspirational people.

“It’s such an honour to help people feel better,” she explains. “I also learn something new every day.”

Can Mel recall a time she made a difference?

There are several moments that stand out for Mel, but one in particular left a lasting impression – supporting a young person to return to work and navigate the system following a horrific injury.

Fun fact about Mel

Thanks to past workplace roles, Mel can name most vehicles on sight. She also knows the suspension setup of many modern 4WDs and can explain – in great detail – the difference between Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) and Gross Combined Mass (GCM).
