A Day in the Life of Hannah

This week we had the pleasure of interviewing one of our senior rehabilitation consultants, Hannah Bird who supports clients across Hobart.

Her journey into this role began after coming across an article from ASORC about the human rights-focused nature of Rehabilitation Counselling, a field promoting inclusion, independence, and community for people living with disabilities. “What could be more rewarding than that?” she recalls, reflecting on her choice to enter the industry.

A Typical Day in Hannah’s Life

Hannah’s day starts with a peaceful walk to work, stopping for a coffee to kickstart her morning. By 8:15, she’s in the office, ready to tackle emails and prioritise tasks.

Her mornings often involve medical case conferences where she collaborates with injured workers and their doctors to facilitate effective treatment and capacity building.

She also takes part in MyPulse, an Employee Assistance Program where she offers health coaching to Tasmania’s Department of Police, Fire, and Emergency Management employees, helping them achieve health and wellbeing goals.

In the afternoon, Hannah is on the move, visiting worksites to hold workplace meetings, supporting return-to-work and recovery objectives.

Her day is filled with diverse tasks: phone calls, emails, report writing, and case management coordination with employers, insurers, and treating professionals. “I love the variety,” she notes. “No two days are the same.”

Making a Difference

Hannah works within a biopsychosocial framework, using her skills in case management, stakeholder engagement, injury prevention, and vocational counselling to support individuals through their entire recovery journey.

“It’s not just about managing injuries; it’s about promoting a person’s confidence and independence,” she says.

Recently, Hannah helped a client overcome workplace bullying.

Through supportive meetings, treatment sessions, and case conferences, she enabled her client to return to her role and rebuild her confidence.

In a heartfelt message, Hannah’s client expressed “I hope you know just how much your support has meant to me… It’s hard to express how grateful I am for everything you’ve done. Just knowing I could reach out to you made all the difference.”

Hannah’s kindness and dedication to her role allows her to make a real difference in people’s lives.

Whether it’s a supportive call, a return-to-work meeting, or health coaching, Hannah’s people-centred approach makes her a trusted ally in each client’s recovery journey, ensuring they feel supported and empowered at every step.
