A Day in the life of Kate Barker

“…One of my clients experienced a severe mental health episode… I was able to assist them in accessing acute support whilst waiting to see their GP… [the client] let me know later that he felt he was able to reach out to me due to the trust we had built and thanked me for being there for them at a time of need…”

Building trust and being there for clients in a time of need, is just one aspect of Kate’s work as a Rehabilitation consultant which she finds rewarding.

A career that gives back

We spoke with Kate Barker, a rehabilitation consultant based in Hobart, about her role at Rehab Management – supporting individuals to re-join the work force or civilian life.

Day to day, her job involves meeting with clients and their GP’s, liaising with treaters and employers, as well as delivering health coaching through an emergency services program.

She is driven by a passion for helping people achieve their goals and be the best version of themselves and gets to see the tangible impact of her work on the lives of people in her community every day.

“I love seeing workers return to work and health and wellbeing in their life outside of work.”

The collaborative and people-focussed nature of the job means that no two days are the same – Kate works with diverse individuals and teams of people, across a variety of locations and environments.
