A Day in the Life of Sophie
This week, we had the pleasure of interviewing Sophie Gollan, one of our dedicated Occupational Therapists at Rehab Management. Sophie took the time to share her usual daily work routine, why she chose to work in the industry and reflects on a time when she helped make a difference in someone’s life.
When asked about her typical day as an Occupational Therapist, Sophie explains the dynamic nature of her work. She begins her day with a cup of coffee while checking emails before diving into her tasks. Her daily tasks vary from managing emails to handling case files encompassing various areas such as ex-military Worker’s Comp, and CTP, Sophie’s days are filled with diverse responsibilities.
Sophie’s team in Wollongong cover a large area, which sees her travelling extensively in her everyday work. She conducts workplace assessments, activities of daily living (ADL) assessments, and medical reviews across a wide range of settings, from farms and fish co-ops to office environments.
Her journey into the Employment Services industry stemmed from her positive experience during a placement with Rehab Management in 2021. The decision was reinforced by the rewarding nature of her role, where she witnesses clients achieving final certificates or receiving approval for complex ADL recommendations in their rehabilitation journey.
Reflecting on a specific instance where she made a meaningful difference in her work, Sophie recounts a success story involving a client with a traumatic leg injury. Over a period of 12 months, Sophie worked diligently to help the client transition back to suitable duties before returning to pre-injury tasks. With active engagement in rehabilitation and employer support for modified duties, the client’s recovery journey was significantly eased.
We thank Sophie for taking the time to share her experiences with us, offering an insight into the meaningful work carried out by Rehab Management.
