National Safe Work Month | October 2022
Last year in Australia up to 163 people lost their lives due to working in an unsafe work environment. Between 2019 and 2020 up to 120, 300 people made a workers’ compensation claim due to an injury or illness.
Work related injury is a serious issue, which evidently effects a great deal of individuals and their families within Australia.
National Safe Work Month, celebrated each October (since 2009) is a month dedicated to ensuring safe work environments across Australia. It is a time where we come together and commit to building healthy workspaces for ourselves and those around us.
This month is run by the organisation Safe Work Australia, the national policy agency that is responsible for WHS and workers compensation arrangements within our country.
In the month of October SWA asks businesses, employees and workers to join them in raising awareness towards work health and safety within the wider community. This year’s theme of National Safe Work Month includes ‘Know safety, work safety’.
This year, each week within October will focus on a different area of health and safety –
Week 1:
Mental Health.
Week 2:
Injuries at work.
Week 3:
Managing WHS risks and preventing harm.
Week 4:
Safe and healthy work for all.
