Spinal Health Week

Did you know that the 25th to the 31st of May marks Spinal Health Week? That’s right, it’s the perfect time to take a moment to appreciate the incredible importance of our spines and how we can take care of them.

Our spine serves as the central support structure for our bodies. It keeps us upright and connects all the different parts of our skeleton. If our spine isn’t properly cared for, it can lead to problems that may affect the function of vital organs and systems, resulting in pain and other health issues.

So, how can we ensure a healthy spine? The Australian government’s Health Direct website recommends exercising regularly and maintaining good posture as the best ways to keep our spines strong and healthy. Engaging in low-impact exercises that strengthen the muscles supporting our spines is crucial.

But what about our workplaces? That’s where Rehab Management can help! We offer comprehensive ergonomic assessments and training to create safe and healthy workplaces for all staff. From evaluating desk setups to ensuring proper lifting and manual handling procedures, we cover it all.

Our expert allied health professionals conduct thorough ergonomic assessments that take into account seating arrangements, employee behaviors, equipment usage, and the working environment. We also provide on-site training tailored to specific business needs, both for individuals and groups.

Beyond the office, at Rehab Management we offer manual handling training to reduce the risk of injuries. Occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and exercise physiologists provide education and skills to promote safe and comfortable working practices.

Rehab Management’s very own Head of Innovation, Michelle Barratt, shared some exciting news about how we can utilise Virtual Reality technologies (VRT) in the field of spinal injury support. Michelle told us how VRT has shown promising applications in many aspects, such as, Pain Distraction and Wheelchair Skills Training. Through the creation of simulated real-life scenarios dictated by terrains and obstacles, Michelle says, VRT helps “patients gain confidence and proficiency in wheelchair usage”.

So, remember, at Rehab Management, we’ve got your back—literally! We’re all about helping employers and employees understand and follow workplace health and safety rules. Our top-notch rehabilitation management services are here to lend a helping hand when accidents happen. This Spinal Health week, take a stand for your spine, make those adjustments, and let’s build a workplace that’s as strong as your backbone.
