New Financial Year, New Setup: Is Your Workstation Working for You?

The start of a new financial year is a great reminder to review more than just budgets and business goals. It’s also the perfect time to check whether your workstation is supporting your health, comfort and productivity.

Whether you’re working from home, in the office or a combination of both, small ergonomic adjustments can make a significant difference in reducing discomfort and preventing work-related injuries.

Here are a few simple ways to refresh your setup:

  • Adjust your chair so your feet are flat on the floor and your knees are level with, or slightly lower than, your hips.
  • Position your monitor at arm’s length, with the top of the screen at or just below eye level.
  • Place your keyboard and mouse close to your body, allowing your elbows to rest comfortably by your sides.
  • Check your posture by sitting back in your chair with your shoulders relaxed and your back supported.
  • Review your work habits and take regular micro-breaks to stand, stretch and move throughout the day.

It’s also worth taking a moment to declutter your workspace and ensure frequently used items are within easy reach. A well-organised workstation can help reduce unnecessary reaching, twisting and awkward postures that contribute to strain over time.

Remember, ergonomics isn’t just about your desk and chair. Factors such as lighting, screen glare, laptop use, headset positioning and how often you move throughout the day can all impact your comfort and wellbeing. Taking a proactive approach now can help prevent minor aches and pains from developing into more significant issues later in the year.
